The town of Michalovce is preparing a unique entertainment festival called Double Fest to be held on the 9 - 11 August 2013. It’s time to look forward to interesting events, delicious food, valuable prizes and of course an amusing yet ambient atmosphere.

       Why Double Fest?

The answer is simple – Double Fest, because everything that awaits you will be double. Double the amount of entertainment... Double the celebrities... Double portion of refreshments... Simply EVERYTHING but in really large doses. The program consists of two main events – Michalovce with Michaels and Michelles and the Michalovce Stage. The accompanying programme will also provide space for cooks who will demonstrate to visitors and our citizens their skills at preparing the traditional Zemplín meal of stuffed cabbages. We will also attempt to break a record and be entered in The Slovak Book of Records with the highest number of Michaels and Michelle’s, gathered together in one place and furthermore we are also preparing a contest of celebrity look-alikes which can be entered into by anyone.
 

     We are looking for look-alikes!

Look-alikes, beware, so much is at stake! Double Fest is an event to which the town of Michalovce wants to attract look-alikes of world celebrities. Our ambition is to search high and low and present to festival visitors, people, who have an uncanny resemblance to celebrities. Each Celebrity Look-alike Contest applicant must sign in by filling in the registration form. In order to be eligible to win the prize money personal attendance will be required in August. Double Win! Two winning contestants who most resemble their celebrities will be presented in the main cultural programme featuring other celebrities!

     Michaels, Michelles, come together!

As a part of the festival, we are organising a gathering of people whose first name is Michal or Michaela and of course their variations in other languages, for instance – Michael, Michelle, Mikael, Mike, Majk, Miikael, Mikka, Michel, Miguel, Michail... The goal of gathering as many people with this name as possible is to make an attempt at a record to be entered into The Slovak Book of Records. All the Michaels and Michelles will be given a unique T-shirt upon registration and perhaps more... For all the Michaels and Michelles we will also organize a signing session and talks with other famous Michaels – a musician, a singer, a writer, a sportsman... Who will attend? Let us surprise you! And with all of this culminating in the greatest entertainment programme in the main square, featuring various celebrities.

     Michalovce Stage

Michalovce Stage is the second unique event of Double Fest. It is a showcase of theatres which tries to maintain and nurture the uniqueness of dialects in theatrical art. We would like to invite amateur theatres performing in dialects of different Slovak regions to take part. The star turn of the program will be a performance of the famous theatre called Radošínské naivné divadlo (Radošín Naive Theatre). All the ensembles will present to the spectators their shows directly in the pedestrian zone in the town of Michalovce, also within the premises of The Zemplín Museum, at the reservoir of Zemplínska Šírava, as well as on the main stage of the Municipal Cultural Centre of Michalovce.

     What else?

We are also preparing other interesting accompanying events which will double the entertainment during the festival – competition in cooking our traditional Zemplín meal – stuffed cabbages, providing an opportunity not only for professional chefs but keen amateurs as well, who will carry out workshops where they will show and teach those who are interested in how to make this traditional meal. As part of the competition, the speed of preparing and eating the meal will be judged, and we will also announce the winners of the largest and smallest stuffed cabbage!

One of the main highlights of the festival will be the arrival of a historical train with visitors from Košice who will be able to get an insight into the historical sights and treasures of our town and its surroundings. All of this and much, much more awaits you in the town of Michalovce during the second weekend of August at Double Fest!!
